Model Y Juniper Wrap Reveal: Avery Dennison Rising Sun

The Model Y Juniper got a color-change wrap built around the Philippine flag. Here's the story behind the Avery Dennison Rising Sun build.

The Juniper has been white since delivery. That was always temporary. I’d been working with Austin at AIMWrap on a concept for months, and the car finally came out looking exactly like what we had in our heads, honestly better.

The Concept: Philippine Flag Through a Color Shift Lens

The theme is the Philippine flag. The flag has three stars and a sun, and the sun is the centerpiece of the design. Austin had it embossed directly into the wrap on the rear quarter panel. Subtle enough that you have to look for it, but unmistakable once you see it.

The color is Avery Dennison “Rising Sun” from their Color Flow Series. This isn’t something you’ll find on their website. It’s gate-kept; you need the physical swatch book to even know it exists. Austin spent about a month locked in on Avery specifically because the quality had to match the concept. When he found Rising Sun, it was obvious. The name fit, the color fit, the story fit.

It’s a gold-to-rose-to-pink color shift depending on the light and angle. In direct sun it reads warm gold. At dusk or in cooler light it shifts into a deep rose and copper. Austin also pointed out it carries a subtle hint of green, a nod to my previous wrap. That detail wasn’t planned but it landed perfectly.

At Nikola Customs

Austin works out of Nikola Customs, which is where the wrap got done. I’ve been coming here for a while and it’s always a scene. There’s always something interesting getting worked on.

The day I dropped the car off, Jimmy was there with his Cybertruck, different wrap from the week before as expected. Brian’s Model 3 “Net Zombie” build was inside. A brand new Model S Plaid was getting work done. Bestie from the Vegas run was also dropping her Model 3 off for a fresh wrap. That teal/gold Model Y below is my previous Model Y with its old wrap. That color is part of why the Rising Sun was such a perfect fit. In certain angles and lighting, the new wrap has a subtle green shift that echoes the old one.

The car left the shop just in time for SEMA. There were still a few finishing touches Austin wanted to add, HaloBlk covers being one of them, but the core build was done. Full SEMA story is in the road to SEMA 2025 post.

The Wrap in Natural Light

Photos don’t fully capture a color-shift film. The wrap reads completely differently at noon in a vineyard parking lot versus at a Supercharger in the desert.

The vineyard shots were taken a few days after pickup. That rose-copper tone in the side profile is what you get in partial shade. Full sun pushes it back toward gold. Every time I park somewhere new it looks like a different color.

What’s Next for the Build

Austin is also going to be wrapping the Cybertruck and the Rivian R1S. Both are going to be something. Austin also did a follow-up fix on the wrap after this. That story is in the AIMWrap alignment fix post.

If you’re looking for a wrap in SoCal, Austin is at @aimwrap on Instagram. Tell him Sherwin sent you.
